The BHK Group is a large company with many relatively autonomous subsidiaries. BHK's floors are produced by BHK Flooring, Ltd., which is based in the United Kingdom. Products are distributed in the United States by BHK of America and by many smaller businesses.
BHK makes floors in two primary styles: laminate and wood. Each of these categories contains a set of options with different appearances and functionalities. Most of the solid wood products are distressed to create the appearance of age. The laminate floors are more patterned and regular, and they come in a larger variety of colors.
BHK also has a special line of floors called engineered wood. These floors can be installed in more ways than solid wood or laminate, and they are compatible with heated sub-floors. Engineered wood has the same appearance as solid wood, but its underside is constructed differently, usually with a different type of wood than appears on the surface.
BHK Flooring, Ltd., also produces paneling for walls and ceilings, as well as various smaller products useful for installing floors and moulding.
The BHK Group began in 1971 with a small factory in Buren, Germany. The company had only five workers. It is now an international operation employing 750 people, most of whom work in Germany. (After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the company expanded its operations into East Germany.)
BHK of America is located in South Boston, Virginia. The focus of BHK America is wooden and laminate drawers, but the subsidiary company also oversees the distribution of BHK flooring. The company first began its American operations in 1976.
