"Horrible carpet"
We purchased about 400 s/f of this carpet three years ago for about $6.00 s/f and already have to replace all of it. It is the worst carpet we have ever had the displeasure of owning. We are in our seventies and have owned 11 homes in our lifetime. This carpet is in a home that we only live in 6 months of the year, there are only two of us and we do not wear shoes in the house. It has looked like a rag in the high traffic areas since the first month. We filed many complaints with Mohawk to no avail,. We had to purchase a special vacuum to use on it and we followed the mfg. recommendation and had it cleaned at 18 months following the special cleaning instructions for this carpet. The company said the carpet was junk and was going to let the selling store know about it. It is now in such bad condition that we can no longer stand to have it in our home and are replacing it.

"Don't buy"
Bought this carpeting from Lowes 4 years ago. It has wrinkled very badly. Lowes won't cover the costs of stretching and Mohawk says they are not responsible for wrinkles.

"Re: Jason Alexander the carpet representative"
Mr. Alexander states "anything starting with P in the fiber type is garbage" just does not know what he is talking about. Old school carpet people like him are reluctant to want to hear about change, but things do indeed change. Just as your Doctor learns new techniques to care for you, the carpet industry has also made great strides in their fibers. PTT or Triexta or SmartStrand, whatever someone wants to call it, is a superior fiber to nylon. If it wasn't, why would Shaw and the other mills have fought so hard in the courts to get this classified as polyester? The courts agreed that this was indeed a new animal! Mohawk and many of us carpet retailers were able to prove, beyond any doubt, that SmartStrand is a much more durable fiber than polyester & is much more cleanable than nylon! Please test it for yourself. Have your local store order samples, spill wine on them then wait a day. After it has dried, use hot water to reactivate the stain and it will blot up with water and paper towels. As for it's durability, it is chemically different than polyester or nylon. Do some research and you will see for yourself.

"Karastan Smart Strand is Garbage - Mohawk Warranty is Garbage"
Purchased Karastan Mohawk Carpet from local dealer in Nov of 2016. By April of 2017 this very expensive, supposedly pet friendly, carpet was getting severely matted, corn rowing and losing strands everywhere when vacuumed. Complained. Mohawk sent out an inspector. Guy said matting was normal (really?) Carpet looks like it's been installed 10 years not 4 months. I asked the inspector to check on the strands coming out, he arrogantly said "that's not what I'm here for. Not in the inspection criteria. File another claim" Mohawk denied claim. I'm suing retailer. Will never again even consider a Mohawk product. I have bought Shaw, Tuftex and Fabrica. First and last time I will ever buy a Mohawk product. It is total, absolute garbage.

"Worst wearing carpet ever"
Purchased on October 29, 2015, our first problem was it was impossible to push a vacuum on it. We tried our Dyson and then bought a Hoover Tempo which also did not work. After about 20 emails and phone calls, Mohawk sent us an Oreck Magnesium which we could finally push. The next issue occurred on April 21, 2017. The carpet started bubbling in many areas. The carpet store sent repairmen to stretch it. Now it is starting to bubble again. The carpet pattern is now flattening in areas where we walk. After vacuuming, it looks ok, but once it's walked on, it flattens again. It's beginning to look worn and shabby after less than 2 years. I am so disappointed in your "soft carpet"!

"Confident"
I am the manager of as full service flooring store in So. Florida. I and my partner have been selling Smartstrand and Smartstrand Silk products for over 5 years and have had installed probably over 20,000 sy in that time. We have had a few complaints on the difficulty of vacuuming the higher piled styles. And we have replaced a couple of jobs because the consumer didn't like their color choice. And in these five years I have had one case where staining was a problem, another that had an odor problem. Each time, and those have been few, Mohawk has immediately and without question, authorized replacement. I haven't seen "cornrowing" since the days of first generation polys, and in my experience, nearly any soil or stain will come out with 160 degree water. I can only believe that the reviews which I see on this site were written by disgruntled competitors, or consumers whose dealers did not appreciate their situations and address the problems correctly. In our company, we love Smartstrand, all 25 of us!

"Former Carpet Manufacture Sales Representative"
Okay, here it goes guys. I worked for 5 years as a Territory Sales Manager for a top 3 carpet manufacture in the 90's. Also I grew up in the community that makes all this carpet. Do not buy any carpet that has a fiber that begins with P. That means polypropylene, polyester, PET, PTT, or whatever fancy trademark name they come up for Polyester. The people who run this industry are just retarded. Any P fiber has basically no memory. This is why you can read all these negative reviews where the customer is stating that their old carpet of decades looked better than their new carpet did after 6 months. Because their old carpet was made with nylon. The Gold Standard. If twisted correctly and dense enough along with simple maintenance it will last a long time and is a phenomenal value with gas prices being this low. Nylon is connected to the price of an oil barrel. Lower oil prices lower cost of goods to make nylon carpet. For stain resistant Solution Dyed Nylon is superior. Even the vaunted Stain Resistance of the P fibers is mostly a crock of bull*** since as far as I know all P fibers when extruded are covered with a coating of oil in order for the fiber not to break during the extrusion process. Yes, most but not all companies try to scour the oil film off, however, mark my word the residual oil film is still there and that is why you read all these complaints about the P fiber carpets looking dirty or soiled so quickly after installment. Buy Nylon Carpet, preferably 32 ounce or heavier with a good twist to the fiber like a frieze and solution dyed if possible. You will be happy. I will read less complaints about people spending thousands of dollars and being rightfully pissed. And maybe carpet will begin to increase in market share again and more people in my community will be hired.

"Coming apart at the seams"
My mohawk carpet continues to fray at the seams. Their "independent" tester said there was nothing wrong with the carpet and recommended the installer re-seal all the seams. It looked better for a while, and now it sheds more. There are several areas where loops have pulled. Mohawk makes a terrible product and doesn't stand by their warranty.

"Horrible"
We replaced some 7 year old carpet with the smartstrand silk from mohawk. We were sold on the softness, durability, and stain resistance. It is soft. That is the only good thing about it. It also cost twice as a comparable competitor. Within months, we started noticing horrible wear patterns. Within a year, it looked worse than our 7 year old carpet we replaced. We got a dog the first year and she had a few accidents. No matter what we did, we could not get the stains out. I have never had a problem with a pet urine stain on previous carpeting. We vacuumed with approved vacuums. We steam cleaned at approved intervals. The stain resistance and durability of this carpet is absolutely horrible. Any basic builder grade carpet has outperformed this.
