"Soft Wood"
Mirage is well named. The quality of the wood is a Mirage. At first install they looked beautiful but we found out fast we can't walk on them or drop anything. These floors are the softest wood. It's unbelievable how easily they dent. Anything dropped leaves a permanent dent. Cell phone leaves a perfect ding in the shape of the phone case. Would like to know if they use a species of oak that is fast growing and soft or cut from young growth. There has to be some reason this product is so soft. Our plywood underlayment dents less than this product. We left the product for the upstairs in the boxes. Be warned we experienced the same as other posts that their wood is ridiculously soft. Run don't walk. Hugh disappointment having to be so careful and look at the dents every day. Better to put it on a wall.

"Mirage Hardwood is amazing"
As someone who has worked with literally dozens of hardwood brands (and sold hundreds of thousands of square feet of engineered wood flooring in my career) Mirage is by far the most problem-free brand I have worked with. The complaints seen here are either typical of all hardwood floors -(i.e. scratching, denting and colour change) or are the result of an extremely poor buying choice (for instance choosing a smooth-surface floor with a high gloss-level when you have kids, dogs, wear shows inside, etc). The level of ignorance and mis-information spread here is so profound I wouldn't even know where to begin refuting it; so I won't. The only thing I can suggest is to work with a reputable dealer who will recommend the correct floor for your living conditions, who will install it correctly (including all necessary sub-floor preparation) and will teach you how to take care of it.

"Never stays clean"
Love the floor color but that's it. It never stays clean. Shows every foot print with or without shoes! Even using their cleaner it never gets the foot prints up completely. The floor never looks pristine. There are no children or pets, just two senior citizens. And yes, contrary to the sales rep reassurance, the floor does dent easily. I've had the product a little over 2 years. Very disappointed.

"It's worth the price"
At first, I was hesitant because of the price, but seing how my brother was satisfied with his own hardwood floor, I decided to go with this brand. I do recommend Mirage, it was delivered just in time, the color and finish was as expected and so far, I am satisfy with the quality

"Many of these reviewers held false expectations"
We install many brands of wood flooring and have found Mirage to be of the very highest quality in the marketplace. What I am reading in these negative reviews is disappointment due to false expectations. I may blame the salesperson for not informing the customer of wood floorings basic characteristics. Woods vary in hardness. Most wood flooring falls in the medium hardness range ie.oaks and maple. These will dent when a heavier object falls on it or a high heel has lost its cap or an active dog of 30 lbs or over with longer claws is living on it. These problems are not anything the manufacturer did or did not do but a lack of adequate up front education.

"Never Again"
We had Mirage engineered wood flooring in Red Oak, Sierra finish installed professionally five years ago. First, of the many samples of engineered wood, the Mirage looked the prettiest and Sierra was the exact finish we wanted. Initially, however, we ordered another brand due to price, but when it arrived the finish was applied terribly, our installer took care of the return (about 1,500 sf of wood, why you hire professionals) and spent the extra money on Mirage. Initially, the floor looked beautiful, we loved it, Then it started, the denting issues others complain about - especially in the kitchen - a lid to a pan, a glass bowl, a piece of flatware, literally anything with a little weight will dent the floor if dropped on it. I've had hardwood floors (regular solid strips of oak) in a couple of my homes (one we had installed, the other a ninety year old house with original floors), as do my parents in their home they've lived in for over forty years, this engineered wood does not behave the same way as regular wood floors. Solid wood floors scratch and dent differently, the Mirage floor is so soft the dents are the shape of the area of whatever fell on it, sort of like if you dropped it in clay - I don't know how to describe it, but I guarantee everyone complaining about dents knows what I'm talking about. This flooring is not like regular wood, I have dropped plenty of things on other solid wood floors and they don't look as bad as the Mirage does. I wish denting was the only problem, however. Several months ago I noticed the edges of many of the boards have lost their finish! As if the dents didn't look bad enough, this looks awful, the finish is literally gone and raw wood showing on the edges of about an eight of our flooring. I think this might have something to do with moisture from cleaning (I only use recommended methods and products), the way the boards interlock there are tiny spaces between them where grime can settle, possibly moisture from cleaning solution as well. The areas that are almost never cleaned other than dusting aren't like that. If you're considering installing wood floors please go with solid wood and have it finished in your home after installation, yes, it's a big job and a bit of a mess but you will be much happier with the quality of the end product. Solid wood wears and ages gracefully, My five year old Mirage flooring looks so bad, I would gladly trade it for pretty much anyone's fifty year old solid oak floors. I do not recommend this product.

"Just The Worst Quality"
My hardwood is 10 years old and it's completely covered in scratches. You might image a really scratched hardwood... multiply the worst hardwood you can image and multiply that by 50. Zero exaggeration. I've never seen anything like it. We have a 35 Lbs French Bulldog and it couldn't take him walking on it. Every inch of the floor is covered with scratches. My parents' hardwood is 30 years old and had two dogs, twice that size, run all over it and it has almost no wear. If your builder shows you anything from Mirage, run the other way.

"My experience"
I'm looking to change my Mirage hardwood floors for another one, and was wondering what people say about the brand. I had Mirage Floors for 20 years now, and have nothing to complain. I had one scratch, made by a big dog that got way to excited at my house and I got to cover the scratch with the repair kit. I now want a pale color (pale beige, or grey?) and probably will go with Mirage. I just wanted to see other options, even though I strongly recommend Mirage. I think people writing reviews are probably people that aren't happy with it, because that is when we look to write about a brand. Just thought it would be important to share my opinion!

"I was scared, but do NOT regret!"
Reading all the reviews here, but considering the brand was the fifth better one in hardwood flooring, I was not sure to buy it. I fell in love with the Red Oak Umbria, and decided to purchase it three years ago. I love it! I have a small dog and the floor is really solid. No scratches, and everyone coming to my house is making a good comment about it. I live in Alberta, and got it professionnaly install, the final result is amazing!

"Worried about color change"
Like most other reviewers I was told these were the best and my engineered flooring looks pretty. The dents perplexed me as we have no kids or pets and wear socks in the house, but now I know it is to be expected with this brand. What scares me is the potential for color change. I had some area rugs and of course the sofa covers part of the floor. It's true Mirage oxidizes a lot, my major financial investment will actually devalue my home when it's time to sell. So disappointing.
